Queen's day celebrations
ISO: ---

Today is a Dutch national holiday, celebrating the birthday of the previous queen, called 'Queen's day'. Many people sell whatever they wish to sell out on the street, and there's alot more going on. This years episode was tainted by the sad events that happened in Apeldoorn: BBC NEWS | Europe | Car attack on Dutch royal parade

Anyway, I decided today was a good day to try out my new DA 12-24mm which I bought off of a forum member recently. The results aren't stunning, but I'm still mildly satisfied. I turned them into B/W because the abundance of colour and chaos made most pictures way too 'busy'.

Comments very welcome!

Re: Queen's day celebrations

Congrats on your new lens!

Some nice shots here. But the first thing which struck me when I opened the thread was the very distracting backgrounds and lack of simplification. There is just way too much clutter here for my taste. Sorry.

#4. The chopped-off sign is particularly distracting.
#5. Probably my favourite of the series.
#6. May I see the colour version if possible? I would like to see the colours in that scene, especially of the toy truck near the lower-left corner. Not sure if B&W was the best choice here.
#7. There is a quite in-focus fence in front of the camera.

Next time, you could try to use a longer focal-length lens, and "zero-in" an a face, using a large aperture to blur the background. Or with a W/A lens, simply walk around, testing various angles until you find the ideal one, remembering to shoot a lot from all angles.
