Color vs. B&W
Lens: 17mm Camera: K200D ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F8

Here's two images. The second is a B&W conversion of the first using the Andy B&W simulator in Bibble, simulating Tri-X with mostly default settings.

Any thoughts on which you prefer and what your reasoning is?

Thanks,

Reid

Oooooo... I like 'em both. Hmmmmm... I slightly favor the color version for all the subtle colors in has. Beautiful shot.

I prefer the b&w version, though you might tweak the grayscale mix to bring out the tones a bit better.

Grayscale for me. It helps "focus" the viewer's attention and separate the sky from the horizon.

Colour for me because of the lack of contrast in the water and sky.

I like the color version. As my eye goes down the boardwalk I see clouds and color. BW has nothing there for my eye to see

Color - as my eyes get drawn to the end of the dock and then to the horizon (Nicely done!!) I like the green/blues.

I'm going to go for the B&W. In color the range of hue's is very small IMO and doesn't do much. In the B&W the value range becomes stronger?.... more noticeable?... it enforces the composition and value range. At least for me, but hey, I have a preference for good B&W. As an ol'fart I grew up on it.

I like the B&W because it just "pops" more.

Thank you all for your thoughtful critiques!

I wonder if the B&W image could benefit from some additional TLC. Specifically, I'll try to bring something more out of the sky - perhaps this weekend I'll have time to sit down and try again. I'll post my result in this thread.

I prefer B&W but I'd crop it a bit tighter
