Abandoned Barbershop
Lens: 15mm Camera: Pentax K-7 ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/25s Aperture: F4

Found a nice abandoned barbershop while on a photo walk. I had to return to it the next day in order to photograph it with my 10-17 fisheye. I wanted to bring out an old, somber feeling with this abandoned storefront. Does it work for you?

G'day Jason,
Nice idea.
Lighting just doesn't do it for me, though.
There not much that grabs my attention in the photo, but I suppose a different perspective and moody lighting suited to the ambience would improve things.

darken it up a bit, add some selective dodging and burning and it could bring the picture to life for sure

A great composition and subject matter, but I agree with the others in that the lighting just doesn't cut it. It doesn't give a sense of the abandonment. It looks like they're just tidying up and the way the room is so bright, people will be walking in at any moment.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I heeded your advice and tried darkening the overall scene. Is this photo an improvement?

While not a drastic change, it definitely is an improvement. I really like this shot (I have a love of all things abandoned/decayed/deconstructed) and I probably would have gone to town (maybe overboard) in Lightroom on this one. Shots like this just scream dramatic lighting.

Jason,

The second photo is a big improvement.
I think a slight warming of the colours would eliminate that fluorescent look.

Those wonderful old chairs certainly evoke a btgone era.

Jason, the idea is good IMHO and I rather like it but:
clone out or crop out those things at the very beginning of the little pult.
I'd go tad closer and definitely remove those things. And shame you didn't notice how the writing reflects in the mirror oposite you. Part of it is blown out. Otherwise I'd do in in B&W, but that's just me, I do love B&W shots, but understand it's not to everybody's taste.
