It's a nice idea, kind of reminds me of one of those 'everyone is dead' movies like 28 Days Later.
The blur isn't quite right though, maybe a slightly faster shutter speed would heve been better.

Thanks for your comment Damn Brit, Interesting, as as I was going for was the controlled, slight blur. For me, it adds life. Interested in what other people think about it.

Nice concept.
Works OK for me. Wing blur adds a little to the dynamics of the bird's flight, but I too would prefer a frozen action shot.

I get Gary's comment - the lack of human life amongst the concrete jungle in the image gives that 'I am legend' impression...

Well done.

Maybe I meant slower shutter speed. I definitely like the blur, just don't think that was the right blur, that was what I meant.

I personally think that you nailed the blur here! I really like how the bird's body is frozen while his/her wings are in motion. The use of the buildings for framing and how the bird is juxtaposed by two on the opposite end really works.

I like it, and the amount of wing blur is spot on to me.

Is that slightly toned, or is it my monitor?

I'm warming to the blur as I see I'm in the minority.
On the other hand, I'm usually in the minority.

The blur works just right for me.

Here is the apprentice trying to improve the work of the master (bound to fail, but then there is a reason why the apprentice is the apprentice and not the master ): Have you tried cropping from the left and removing the two birds in the distance? I find the two birds and the large grey area to the left distract from the "bird escapes from a circular enclosure" theme that seems to appear in the right part of the image. Also the tall building to the very left creates a stop to the bird's escape route.

Haha, thanks ClassA but I don't know about 'master'.
Interested in how you might crop this, care to do a two minute job on it and upload?

If your WPS gallery doesn't bear the hallmarks of a master then I don't know.

Attached is a rough job.

My changes are meant to emphasis the city as kind of a cage for the bird and show a clear escape path. I'm not implying this version is optimal or even better, just trying to show what I meant as a possible alternative.

I think the changes somewhat disambiguate the image to be clearly about a bird and its context rather than being equally about the environment and the bird. This change may destroy some strength of the original image. I just find the changed image easier to parse, if that makes sense.

BTW, I didn't remove as much of the grey area as I initially thought I could since I didn't want the change the placement of the bird too much in order to retain the "escape" dynamics.

A classic "captivity" shot, I would prefer "Infested home" name.
