Hm... Interesting... So you darkened the shadow, and lifted the highlights, but left midtones there... So while his face is still visible alright, there's contrast... I'll see if I can advance on that idea.

for me black and white oft provokes more emotion than colour, obviously there are exception's, your clour version being one. You really need not improve on the original
