I've done you the favor of linking both images so they can be seen in this thread:

I really like the first one. The only technical problem I see is that there is some flare coming in from the top right. The photo might also be a little too saturated. I really like the framing and the subject matter though.

The second one seems too spartan. There is a lot of open space around the tree, and the sloping ground makes it seem a bit out of place. It is a really nice tree though, I just would have framed it differently.

Good shots!

Wally:

Thanks and now I see how to link image correctly. Your comments are going to assist me. I am going to take a look at the saturation. I am using Silkypix so should be able to do some experiments. Glad to make your acquaintance.

I like the second one a lot, but I'd try cropping some off the bottom and off the left side. You'll move the tree off-center that way, and get rid of the out-of-focus foreground while keeping the cool tree and the slope it looks like it's slithering up...

After cropping the photo with the tree is excellent, nicely balanced!

I also prefer the second version of the solo tree shot - nice crop there... I'm not sure about the rock and soil on that particular hill, but for that area, it might just as likely be not saturated enough vs. too saturated. The rocks and soil there can be soooo red!

I think I might liket the fist shot more if it weren't quite so tight on the spires and the tree - leaving them a little more room before the edge of the frame. Very cool shot though.

#1 I like in it's original crop but #2 is better cropped indeed.
Otherwise not much to critisize really.
Nice shots

Well done - bright colours on both.
The tree in #2 looks like it's walking down the hill. Intriguing.
#1 is a better look for me but #2 is simple and effective - would have stopped down a little more if anything.
