First day of snow!

Which version, if at all, do you like the best?

I'm surprised, I thought no1 would be preferred. May I ask why you like that one better?

I dunno, it looks just right to me. Im only a newbie in photography so you should ask someone with more experience though.

I think the 2nd has the better composition. In it, the snow covered rock presents a clear subject. In the 1st this rock only serves as a frame or perhaps a leading element towards the apparent main subject - the OOF background. And, the OOF background doesn't offer much as a main subject. All this IMHO of course.

Would agree with the comments above. The texture in the snowy rock is quite brilliant and is great to have in the frame - still gives the 3D appearance with the background.

Ok, thanks for the replies, I think I see things your way now. Would you agree that had the background been more interesting, then the first shot would be preferable? Oh, and I'll straighten it

And I like #1 better :P It frames the landscape in the background better, which is really the subject IMO since it takes up a much larger portion of the image. I really like the picture by the way, I just wish there wasn't vignetting.

prefer the 2nd one - the shape of the foreground looks more interesting.

That was also the idea of the framing, but now I'm just not sure which I like the best..

Interesting you should mention vignetting as I hadn't taken notice of it.. I'll try fixing it in ps and share the result if I like it better
