Took this one about a fortnight ago while on a walk around and up the Hill of Tarvit. I just liked the way I managed to catch the butterfly. Would appreciate any and all critiques good/bad/indifferant.

You did alright Kay.
The butterfly appears to be in reasonably good focus and the shot is well exposed.
Framing is good - perhaps space in front of the butterfly's head rather than behind its tail may have improved the look, but it's not bad as it is.

What didn't work so well for you is the harsh sunlight and slightly distracting background.
Not much you could have done about the lighting, but the aperture could have been a little more open which would have rendered the butterfly still in sharp focus but the background more smooth and less intrusive on the subject.

Was the flash fired? What lens were you using?

In answer to your questions.. No the flash wasn't fired. and just the kit lens.
