Landscape Looking For Your Input

Here are a couple of pictures that I would like your comments on. I have been involved in photography for many years, but have been mainly taking "snap shots". I would like to take my hobby to the next level. I have never taken a photography class, but have read a couple of books along the way.
Anyway, all comments are welcome, that is the only way I'll learn how to take great photos.

Nice shots. To make them more interesting, from what I have learned over the years, is to include something in the foreground that takes your eyes from the forground object all the way to the farthest point.... for example in shot 1 you maybe could have set up on the pier and composed part of the pier into a great wide angle shot.....?

There is too much uninteresting foreground in both shots. A lot of sky too, so getting in or zooming closer would help.

You may also want to have a look at taking the photo closer to the ground, change the perspective just a touch, and look at increasing foreground interest as mentioned by Rob.

Thanks everyone for you comments and suggestion!!! By me posting some of my photos, and having them critiqued by people with much more experience then I, will help make my composition better in future shots!
