Late Fall evening
Lens: ?Pentax A 35-70mm lens? Camera: Pentax K-m ISO: 100 Aperture: F11

Another attempt at using hdr, this time with a rather cliche subject, a sunset. I was hoping to create a little more interest with this type of subject, without making it look "too" fake. ...any opinions?

Tony

Not bad, there's too much sky though IMO. If you crop out the black clouds at the top the contrast between the golden sky and the foreground will have much more impact.
I know doing that will put the horizon across the centre but I think you'll get away with it in this instance.

I'm afraid this is where HDR doesn't quite work for me.

The dryness of colour with decreased tonal range rendered by the HDR process makes this scene lose its 'life'. It's one to have tried taking a little later in the evening and tried boosting contrast and colour, with or without HDR.

A pleasing result, but not striking IMO.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on this. I am going to crop as you suggested, although I kindof liked the muted clouds at the top as a parallel to the muted colors in the foreground, with the sky breaking it up a bit. Still, you are probably right, and I will try this and see what it looks like.
Thanks,
Tony

I know what you mean, but I was trying something different to see how it would look. Like most shots I post to the critique forum, I kindof like this shot but it didn't quite work out the way I wanted. That is why I really like opinions on how it would work better.
Thanks,
Tony
