My Mug
Lens: 100mm Camera: *istD Photo Location: Home Studio ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F5.6

Had some time, so decided to play around a bit. I had a few strikes against me.

1. I was lazy and didn't shave.
2. Trying to manually focus on yourself is no easy task.
3. First time really sitting down and playing with strobes.

Lighting is what I'm most looking for in critique, but any other tips / suggestions are more than welcome. I want do do our family picture, so that's one reason to start playing with the lighting.

Quite a stock-standard one-light mug shot.
Colours are also a little on the magenta side.
Background's well controlled but bland - can be made more interesting with another light on it to produce a graduated effect.
OK head and shoulders framing, but as mentioned the lighting is simple (gets-the-job-done type lighting). Still works alright and is visually appealing.

Thanks for the input Ash. I also have some natural light coming in from the opposite side of the flash (window), but I guess it wasn't enough to help brighten the other side. I tried to drag the shutter to let some of that light help, but didn't seem to work. If I was to get another flash, would you recommend that being used on the background as you mentioned, or would it be better from the other side, but with less power? I was also thinking of trying to set up a temporary reflector as well. I've got a small spot light I could possibly use on the background to get that graduated effect.

Thanks again.
