Extreme Macro of Flower
Camera: K2000

I took this with my DA 55-300 and a Raynox lens. Extreme closeup of flower - going for an abstract look. Your thoughts?

I'm glad you said 'abstract'. As a large size print I think it would look very good, a small version highlights the lack of detail too much I think.
Colour is good, the red and yellow work well together. There is a bit of a smudge (either on the flower or from your sensor) about a third of the way in from the left near the top which can be cloned out and there is a slightly darker areas on the left hand edge which I think you could either clone out or darken to enhance (not sure which would be best.
If it was mine, I would crop some from the right so that the stem comes out of the corner and that would also get rid of that colour transition that is there.
I think (if you have the opportunity) a portrait aspect version would look good as well.

Gary, Thanks for your thoughts. I did nothing with the file except crop. Here's another crop. Not sure if I like either photo that much - but it's an experiment. :-)

If anything, it's a good test of your printer's red output!

From a distance this crop looks pretty good to me. Crop it square and I think you could make a nice set of drink coasters with it.

I think it would have great potential if it were sharper, especially in the square crop suggested by Gary.

Another shot at it - I'm starting to actually like it. Funky. Looks like a painting.

Of the 3, the first does it for me as an abstract - good for a desktop background.
Otherwise it is too soft for the subject matter and has too thin a DoF.
Pleasant artwork, though.
