I think it is nicely composed and overall I like the picture. I don't think it conveys 'pessimism' that well though, looks more like 'serenity' to me.

I think the vignetting is fine too on this shot.

I don't like the title either, makes no sense to me, which would be fine with an abstract but not a landscape.

Exposure is good but it just feels too tight in the frame for me and the vignetting makes it even more claustrophobic. I think you should have been further back so that the trees had some air around them and the shadows would be longer. It looks to me also that a slightly different angle could have been used to take advantage of the lines between the trees.

If you couldn't get further back possibly getting closer ant taking a picture of the tree trunks without the tree tops would have been better.

Yes, I agree it is claustrophobic; I assumed that it is intentional and part of the message.

It does not feel like taken with 18mm focal length to me though.

But there is no tension in the composition so the claustrophobic feeling doesn't do anything for the picture.

It leads to pessimism

Seriously though, I agree with you. I think the overall feeling is that of sereness and silence, but then comes the tightness that contradicts that.

I take this shot by Pentax K200D so effective focal length is 27mm.
