Nature winter cardinal

I would appreciate c&c. My first attempt with shooting raw and Pentax photo lab.

My first impression is a composition issue, I'd look at cropping out the empty space to the left of the branches and using them (branches) as a frame. Secondly, the cardinal is out of focus yet the colors seem reasonable. Good effort.

Is this crop what you had in mind and does it enhance the effect?

That's sort of the general idea I had but I must say(the idea) is a very subjective one. I also did a little tree pruning (clone tool) to open up the image of the cardinal and give him some breathing room. It gives the image more breadth/depth and symmetry I think. Please understand, this is a very quick application of pp and I'm sure it could be enhanced further.

And I would have cropped like this - a bit more space and face and vertical branch at thirds:
