Forest canopy
Lens: 27mm Camera: istDL* Photo Location: Dominican Republic ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/30s Aperture: F8

Taken on a recent vacation to Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic. I took this shot while looking out the window of a gondola looking down on the forest canopy from about 100ft in the air.

A unique aerial perspective.
I like the idea, although the subject matter looks quite amorphous in the image, making it hard for the eye to latch onto a specific part of the image. Colours and contrast is right, with good exposure, but it does lack impact and interest as a result of the blandness of the scene.

But otherwise, a good result.

I really like the perspective, but I agree that there's nothing to draw the eye anywhere. The visible gondola is both a boon and a shame; it gives us a good indication of scale, but it's also adding a weird one-sided frame to the picture. I can't decide if I'd prefer the scene without it or not.

Green is my favourite colour, and I've been seeing so little of it all winter, I can't help but love the saturation of this shot

I wasn't sure if I should crop the gondola out so I left it as a perspective point. The problem with a lot of photos is that the "impact" is hard to relay unless you were actually there when the picture was being taken. You really don't get the feeling I had hanging out the window while going up the side of the mountain while being suspended by a single wire.

Thanks for the critiques. I've decided to title this image "Brocolli"!

Crop out the gondola, and you get a nice abstract picture.

I agree. 'specially if you go with the title "Brocolli"!

It's a wonderful mix of greens and textures (although the biologist wants to know what tree species...) and some snaky lines to spice it up. Too bad there wasn't some critter in a treetop, that would give you the scale and focal point you want. But it works as an abstract... particularly on a snowy winter day!

I thought the same thing . I actually kind of like the gondola. It's a bit of an unusual perspective, but for some reason I like it--more so than if it was just the trees. Without it, it truly would be "broccoli".

BTW, I was in the Dominican Republic last fall--beautiful place.
