Flower

I like the colors, they are intense, the composition makes me want to see more of the flower, I find myself leaving the flower to examine the green leaves behind the flower. The view of 1/2 of the flower is clearly a choice, but it leaves me wondering why it was cropped this way. Clearly a departure from most flower pictures.

I don't understand why you are posting an unedited image. You have only done half the work. I, for one, will only critique a finished image.
If you are posting an unedited image because you aren't sure what to do with it then you would be better off posting it in the Post Processing forum.

drifter, Gary's right. Do the processing to get your intended result for more feedback.
On composition, it doesn't quite appeal to me - the flower is makes the image as it is the subject of the photo, so having it half-cropped loses impact immediately. The rest of the image is redundant and even a little distracting. I get your idea, but it hasn't quite worked for me.

The composition looks like it was intended for a magazine layout to have text printed over it. It that were the case, however, the leaves are not of the quality you would want in a layout.

Where's the other half of the flower? I don't think that the abstract view really works with this one.

I like the colors in the photo, but the composition is really killing it for me. Is there a particular reason you decided to cut the flower in half?

If you wanted to try this again think is basic shapes, maybe try a 1/2 square crop with the full 1/2 round flower cutting into the image. The square and semi circle could work. Make the DOF razer thin and cream the background and you could have something interesting. As it is... doesn't do what I think you wanted... but good to see something different from a flower shot here.

PS why no PP? Trying to see if you could get usable images from the camera?

I attached a hack job to give you a visual idea what I meant...

B&W Conversion

I feel that this image would be helped if it was in B&W. The composition i think would even flow just a little more. Thats just my 2 cents! lol

Thanks for the critique everyone. Sorry for the delay getting back to this. The composition of this photo was a complete accident freak but something about it felt interesting to me so I thought I would see what you all think of it. And yes, I was unsure what to do with the photo PP-wise.

I think overall it doesen't quite achieve anything but here is my last attempt to make something with it.
