Ants over the globe
Photo Location: Amazon Rainforest ISO: 400

Shot on Kodak Ultramax 400 film (35mm). No idea what lens anymore.

I know, I know, once again I'm showing something with a tiny DOF, but I still like it :-)

I love this photo! Although your globe isn't quite all the way in focus, it's such a neat idea with the ants on it that I personally just like it. It has a definite quality too of just being a good photo, especially with your great use of depth of field and such. I really like it. I think that the top part doesn't really add much to it though and that a square crop on this might work better though. It just is a little bit distracting where it is. The rest of it is very nice though. I think a 3:2 crop actually would look good here too.

My comments :
1) The focus seems to be at the bottom of the small white sphere and not the ants or the white sphere itself. I find this to be a bother as my subject (if the ants or the white sphere the one) is not in focus.
2) Plus point is that you employed a good depth of field to blur out the background.

Cheers.

I tried a 3/2 crop, didn't like it much (the full image itself is pretty close to 3/2, turns out). Here's a square cop, though. I actually think the ants look quite in focus, at least they do at 100% in Lightroom. How's this?

I like that one much better, actually. Your subject has a lot more prominence in it too. The ants don't look in focus to me, but your globe does, which I thought was a little bit odd when I first looked at it too. There might be a problem with my monitor, or there might be something that you're missing with your depth of field, who knows though.
