The Tractor
Lens: 18-55 DA AL II Camera: K200D Photo Location: Northumberland, UK ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/150s Aperture: F16

I saw this tractor apparently abandoned on some moorland, so I went and took some pictures of it. Here's a black & white conversion of the one I liked best. Opinions?

In answer to a question from Icywarm (in the album comments, rather than in this thread) here's the colour version of this same shot...

B&W

I love this in B&W! The color version does not have enough contrast for me. The B&W is perfect in my eyes!

This an absolultely beautiful shot but it just needs a little pop. I made a few adjustments as a suggestion and as demonstration to what i think it needs. Hope you dont mind. Again, excellent shot! Sorry about the pp job.

Jason - thanks very much. It does have more impact in your version. What exactly did you do to it? I'm no PP expert myself...

I adjusted the mid tones and the highlight levels and then did some selective dodging and burning. I am not huge on photoshop I think that it turns photos into illustrations, so, for the most part I try to keep it to only what I would do in the darkroom. In this case I just did the equivalant to split filtering and dodging and burning. I also added some vignetting if done correctly it draws the eye right to the subject. Hope that helps. Again, great image.

I like the colour shot best. 1st B&W looks a little flat to me and the 2nd one looks over done with the contrast.

As I stated in the comment I posted. My alterations were done as a demonstration there in know way meant to be presented as a finished product. The alterations were done quikly with the intent of helping another if it were for one of my photos or for someone who was paying me then there would have certainly been more of an effort put forth. Thanks

Thanks for your help. I will have a play around with it!
