For any interested Pentaxians in Austin tomorrow (Saturday).......look out for a bunch of old(er) blokes hanging out around the grandstands at Turn 1 from approx 10am .....we should be easy to find....look for the Pentax straps and listen for the laughter, we're a happy bunch.

Have had a great weekend with the "Aussies" - Friday was spent going to the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum in Vanderpool, TX (out in the middle of the Texas Hill Country) then driving through the countryside.

Great meeting with Grant (Mallee Boy), his buddy (mate) Wayne, and Peter (wombat2go) - quite a group!!

Then on Saturday it was off to the races - literally!! Met up with the group at the track and watched some really fun and good racing - those Aussies know how to get a car around a track! Then after the races we all met up and hoisted a few, then my buddy, Jeff, showed 'em some sights (I'm an old fart and had to get my rest) - took the guys out to an Austin tradition - The Oasis at Lake Travis - for some food, beer (did I mention that the Aussies can drink some beer?!!) and live music.

Today (Sunday) unfortunately I was unable to join the group at the track, but I know they'll see some great racing!

All in all, a grand weekend!!

I would also like to thank the Austin guys and the Australians. For me, it was a memorable weekend.
There was quite lot of hot air spoken but i don't recall the sharpness of a Pentax lens even being mentioned!
I hope Mallee_boy and ChipB can put up some of the race shots.

i notice that Rupert was absent but Otis came for a Shiner (or 4) and brought a special shaky lens just for the after hours Austin bars.

Hi Peter, yep, there certainly was some hot air in Austin. Thanks for the driving duties, much appreciated. I have my last stint this moring, about 90 minutes into San Francisco and then out to the airport to drop off the car...will be glad when that is all done.

That shot brings back good memories.

Cheers
Grant

G'Day Guys....I've heard that the race was well received & that V8 Supercars are looking at the possibility of a 2nd race in the U.S.?
Cheers, Pickles.

I've been remiss about posting some pics of the Aussie Super 8's - here's a few...............

The first one shows the effects of a small whoop-de-do in the track - some were bouncing that right rear wheel a foot or so off the track.

The "Oops" series shows one of the cars finding a gravel trap - he did eventually get out under his own power.

I was hoping some pics would finally get posted. I caught a bit of the race on TV, but it was hard to pick out people with Pentax cemras from the crowd :-)
