Hi , im going from Fort Wayne(close to Chicago) , through Nashville -Grand Canyon and ending up in LA .Mostly following I40.
Any suggestions of places to se /photograph? Landscape- birds-wildlife in general. Pentaxshops?

I just spent a few hours on the 40 from Holbrook, AZ, to Kingman, AZ two days ago! I've only driven that Interstate through Arizona. I'd suggest a stop at the Petrified Forrest National Park. The 40 goes through it on your trek through AZ. Also the Painted Desert isn't far from the Grand Canyon. Both are beautiful.

Some other roadside attractions along the old Rte 66 in AZ...

I agree with Petrified Forest National Park. I also highly recommend Canyon de Chelly (pronounced "shay") National Monument (and the iconic Spider Rock located therein) which is about 40 miles north of I-40 on the eastern side of Arizona (not far from Petrified Forest). It is gorgeous and very worthy of a visit, especially for someone who enjoys photography. The monument (effectively the same as a national park in the U.S.) is on Navajo (native American) tribal land. Look for it on the web...

If you have the time and are into landscapes, perhaps you can take a route bit higher on the map to put you through some of the national parks in Utah (Zion, Arches, Bryce) as well as hit Yosemite in California.

If LA isn't a requirement you could instead choose to wind up in San Francisco.

I have to get to LA , but I have thought about driving a bit more north. Mainly because it seems like it is a lot of desert in the route further south ?
