Pentax cameras are not available in India. Your best bet is to source them from abroad,
Thanks for the reply. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences regarding service (official service center/ unofficial)

Pentax does not have presence in India (Sales and Service). Hence the only option is source the kit from US/Japan and if service is required you will have to send it back to the place you sourced it from.

If you handle the gear with care, service requirement may not arise for years. However you never know.

There are members on this forum from India that have been using Pentax for years without any issues.

Hi Everyone,

I am Subodh from Mumbai. I am interested in buying a Pentax Kx but unfortunately, as you know, it is not available for sale in our country. I was thinking of importing a new or used one depending on a good deal. But I am very skeptical about the import duty, customs duty, shipping etc. Can you guide me regarding this? Have you imported any of the cameras that you have? How did you do that?

Thanks an lot and regards,
Subodh
(I am not sure if this is the right place to post my question)

Hi Subodh,

you can request some shop guys if they can import it for you, anyhow they would be importing few other things.
Mumbai should have some camera/electronics importers.

or you can purchase directly from USA & get it shipped in India, pay the custom duties & shipping.

pentax k7

Hi All.
I am in Canada right now and thinking of buying k7. But I am confused thinking that after coming to India there is difficulty in finding lenses and pentax slr bodies. So should I buy Pentax k7 or I should think of buying canon or nikon? Buying a canikon is easy but the real trouble is to buy good glass that will not burn a hole in your pocket...Please advise me guys....

thanks a lot....

if you are in Canada & have enough cash purchase right now everything. if money is issue, purchase the bare minimum K7+ a fast normal zoom(Pentax, Sigma, Tamron) 16,17,18-50 f/2.8.
if you have still money remaining take DA*60-250 or any 70-200 f/2.8 glass
this much kit should be good enough for 95% of your photography.
if you are in macro buy a macro.

this guy is selling in Canada most of the lenses you will need

May be k-x

Thanks for the advise...May be instead of k7 I am thinking about kx. Rest of the money I can use in buying lenses. The lenses you advised are all f/2.8. Is that because they are more sharp and bright or f/3-4.5 or up are not so good?

buying k-x is good option.

normally higher end zoom lenses have this aperture due to the best balance between large aperture & lens size, if the want to make it f/2 or f/1.4 it will make the lens size much bigger & lens design will be difficult to build.
f/2.8 is good enough for low light & out of focus background.
constant aperture lenses are much better as the shutter speed can remain constant as you zoom in or out.
Anyhow the DA*60-250 is f/4 you will rarely find this much zoom range @ f2.8 because the lens will become large & heavy.
whats the budget of yours & type of photography you want to do

Pentax k7,kx,Canon T1i

well, I am more into nature, macro and landscape photography. There is sale going on nowdays on T1i. its around $649 with 18-55mm lens. In future shop its $799 for T1i with 18-55mm,50mm and a flash. Pentax k20D body is for $799. I am considering pentax because of the reasonable price of the lenses as compared to canon or Nikon. My budget is upto $700-800 and will have to wait till I save enough money to buy a good lense.....

Sigma 28-105mm F2.8-4

Hi guys,
I am getting a deal on a sigma 28-105mm F2.8-4 aspherical for around US$150.
Anyone using it? is it worth taking this lens for this price?

Thanks,
Sriram
