Downtown St. Louis from 13th St. Eastbound over Old Courthouse through / to Gateway Arch, multiple landscape / architecture possibilities. Pre-sunrise over horizon across Mississippi River, especially if weather favors light cloudiness in morning. There’s a brief period of color bands from deep blue to orange red.
Other potential locations for interesting light include Missouri Botanical Garden, Forest Park, Washington University Campus, Clayton cityscapes and multiple river scenic on the east, north and south of the city proper.
Unfortunately the elevation of St. Louis is from about 550’ - about 750’ above sea level, so it is essentially flat and covered with trees that obscure views. There are of course hundreds of little spots but a large dramatic area is less common (see above). You need a hotel with a balcony to get any elevation (Chase, Ritz Carlton). Everything else is private, parks or forest walks.
St. Louis had its economic peak in 1904 - so it is an old, tired industrial landscape - maybe something there for you.
