Got back from Tokyo a few days ago and finally got around to finishing up the photos I took: Japan | Flickr

I actually got my wife a lightly used blue and red k-x so she could get into photography too and share my lenses. We got it at MAP camera, which store actually blew my mind, especially on the Leica floor. There was so much high end gear in there! We also got her a camera bag and strap and a pack of eneloops at Yodobashi camera, which also blew my mind. Not only did I get to actually hold and try out a K-1, K-1mkii with the new DFA 50mm f1.4, and the K-P in all color variants for the first time (la boutique Pentax in Paris wouldn't open the glass case when I showed interest in the cameras the last time I was there, and acted like I was inconveniencing them) but Yodobashi's headphones selection also was unbelievable. They just had a $2000 pair of Sennheisers and $5000 pair of Stax headphones just sitting their unsupervised that you could demo. Reality really sunk in that the Japanese are very respectful people because no where in the US can I imagine there is a store like this allowing poeple to handle such expensive gear! BIC camera was also a nice place too, one of the other stores suggested was closed on a Monday though. Everywhere I went the people were nice and I did have a pleasant experience. And also ate some of the best noodles in my life! Japan is great!

^ The last time I was in Tokyo, a fellow left his laptop, wallet, keys, & phone on the table when he went to the restroom. No one touched any of his stuff. I'd like to see someone try that in Los Angeles. Hahaha!

It's very different in Japan & yes. People seem to be far more respectful. Yeah. They have their own issues & all, but it just seems so much more chill over there.

Glad you had a good time and took some interesting photos - I see some places I remember from my trip in 2017 and they're bringing back the urge to return.

Japan is amazing.

On my recent trip to Japan with my K-3 my 18-55 WR was used most of the time. I think I attached my Sigma 18-200 once . For a kit lens the 18-55 is good value and if you don't want the extra weight of additional lenses just take it is my advice

I am visiting Japan this summer (I mean I live in Canada now.) and am looking forward to visit those shops too!
Did you visit Ricoh Imaging Square Shinjyuku?

I did seek it out but our tour only passed by there on a Tuesday. Guess what it was shut on Tuesday. Unfortunate that.

these tips help. i'm going lens shopping there this november. i visited november in 2018. 18-55 kit lens handled the crowds, hand-holding slow shutter speeds, cold, and rain just fine.

Last times I went to Japan I bought cameras. From Osaka I got a Pentax 645. From Tokyo I got a used KP. Fujiya Camera offers a lot of used best buys!

If you had a 20-40 Limited you could pretty much eliminate taking the 3 lenses you mentioned, simplify your bag, and have an amazing lens along for the trip. I really like my 20-40 and have barely used it.

I'll be in Japan a week or so after the Sumo is finished unfortunately.

I am fretting over the equipment to take already.

Probably 15-30mm, 77mm & 100mm (and maybe a Tamron 28-75)
