Viva Las Vegas ....

I have been to Vegas once a year since about 2002 or so - last year was the first time with my Pentax K10D. I like to walk about shoot stuff - Eiffel Tower, Strip, in as many casino's as I can (some don't like the 'pro looking camera'. My wife takes care of the 'investing' (actaully did well last year !!)

I have been to the Imperial Car show (well worth the $6.00 or so) - would like to do the Grand Canyon but don't think I will get there this time (some day). There are photo opportunities galore in Sin City.

We don't usually rent a car, as one can never guarantee one's state of sobriety at any given moment

Just curious if others have favourite spots or ideas of places to go or things to shoot I have missed over the years.

Thx...............Dave

The Valley of Fire is quite nice, and not too far out of town (less than an hour, IIRC).

Hoover/Boulder dam is impressive.
Circus Circus is interesting.
The Forum Shops at Caesar's has some unique things and a free "fountain" show.
The volcano show outside Treasure Island.
The Lion habitat at MGM.
The Guggenheim Museum.
The light show on Fremont street.

Now Dave, lets talk about this. You say you're the only non gambler in the group.
Well, mate I would be leaving them to it and doing this.

Early departure, fine weather...rent a convertible. Go out through Hoover Dam, stop and take a few shots. Then head off taking the old Route 66 (through Kingman I think) enroute for the Grand Canyon. Take the 64 North just after Williams. Should get you to Grand Canyon, South Rim, in time for a sunset. Book into the Bright Angel Lodge, asking for a Rim cabin (in advance of course).
Next morning up bright & early for a sunrise shoot.
Coming home you could deviate through Flagstaff via the 180 South, then take the i 40 out to the Crater and pop down to Sedona.
Alternatively from Grand Canyon you could knick around the 89 North to Zion and back to Vegas on the 15.

A big day, but you can thank me later....beats the hell out of lurking around casinos.

Either way take lots of memory.

Cheers mate.

Sounds like a great day Grant and a great place woof - however hanging around the Casino's does have it perks with Free Drinks (well a $1.00 tip but what's a buck!). Maybe next year I will depart from the group and do a solo.... who knows - visions of grandeur each year ... but a night we all get together and usually go see a show or go to a bar (Harah's has a wicked Piano Bar - great fun!) ....

Anyway it's a done deal for another year... maybe 2009
