Lovely. We didn’t manage to get to Taranaki during our trip a few years ago.

Naa that is Ngauruhoe in the Tongariro NP. Without the other mountains around it to give it context it does look like Taranaki.

Aaagh! And we walked right past Ngauruhoe on the Tongariro crossing! Thanks for clarifying, Gub.

Sorry for the rain. I accept full responsibility as my wife bought me a telescope for my birthday. I suspect it might be good for 7 years of continuous rain. So sorry

Ngauruhoe is one hill I have no need to climb - looks too much like hard work. Did you catch a good day with the crossing? I have had some stunners up there.

My poor wife booked accomodation etc a few years back and did the crossing in complete fog/wind.
Cleared only on the ride back.

Definitely planning to do that again once out of lockdown and fitness levels are build back up. Carrying too much passive weight at the moment...

You are definitely not alone in that, and lockdowns don't help either

We've been lucky. Have walked it twice and both times were perfect weather. Which did mean a lot more people up there, but nice none the less.

Awesome!

Nothing a bit of photoshop wouldn't clear up quickly if you wanted to either.

Looking forward to a day like that!

Oh ah a telescope!
That one will work nicely with binoviewers! I've got a pair incoming on slow boat shortly for my 6 in Dob
Also got one of these coming...Wow the technology !

Thank you. The nice thing with the people is that they do provide scale to the image.
I hope to walk it once more at the end of this year and this time with the K-1.

It was a very nice day when we did it in Feb 2018, the day before Cyclone Gita was due to hit. We were staying in a bach that was close to the exit point from the crossing at Lake Rotoaira. I kept expecting to see armies of orcs marching towards us! We thought about taking the side-track up Ngauruhoe but naaaa…

Congratulations on the new telescope, it looks like a stunning bit of kit. Is there anything particular you are looking to use it for?

My daughter-in-law has been in and out of astro for a while, hence the interest
