RIP Ans Westra
A proper photographer out there capturing the fabric of life.
I have a vague memory of meeting her back in the film days - but I had no concept of her mana at the time.
Either that or I heard an interview or presentation where she explained the merits of looking down into a waist height TLR and the ability of getting candid shots that way.
I occasionally use the K-1 like that with the screen flipped out horizontal - it works- and whenever I do it I think of her.
This was with the FA 400 that way leaning up against a pole - too scary to eye him up thru the camera!

She wore the cloak of invisibility well. Anne Noble has the same gift

Unfortunately as a 110KG oaf with size 20 hands dwarfing my K-1 that unobtrusive technique is not likely to be a goer for me

Too modest, l've seen you disappear behind the Q7 and your models seem unaware of your substantial presence :-)

Oh the characters you meet,
When you forsake town and street,
On a day not the brightest,
Though I care not the slightest,
When all around me I hear the wings beat.

Not too shabby for f/6.7. Certainly it helped with the background, though I did position myself for that. I'm happy with the sharpness, though.

A very different kind of photo from my usual.
The women with the red sashes are cancer survivors. My wife's lurking in their somewhere, along with a friend from our anti-natal group from 12 years ago. Another member of that group didn't make it.
The local camera club was asked if anyone would like to volunteer to help with photos. I didn't see anyone else show up, however my wife was going anyway, so I was happy to help.
My only * lens, the DA* 50-135/2.8 got it's first outing in a while for this. It's too heavy and bulky, with too narrow a zoom range to make it my go-to walk around zoom, but it's a great portrait lens, and though a prime would outperform it in a controlled studio environment, when you've got people on the move, having a zoom is an advantage, so I'd say it's my favourite lens for covering events.

Can't beat a zoom for events like that. Looks like fun!

Thank you for this. Appreciated the article. I may be wrong but think that the first time I saw her images was in the ‘school journal’ (remember those?) which was my first introduction to documentary photography.
