I know who Guy Fawkes is, but why would New Zealand celebrate it? Apparently Rhode Island still celebrates it here in the US.. how strange.

You're not the only one to wonder that. However, it's the only time of the year we can legally buy consumer fireworks (although you can let them off anytime) so people seem to keen to stick with it.

Myself, I use the opportunity to stock up on fireworks for new years...

Because of the historical relationship with England.

Lizzy (Queen Elizabeth II) is still the head of state and is titled "Queen of New Zealand" under the Royal Titles Act 1974. But as Paul McCartney once put it:

Her majesty is a pretty nice girl, but she doesn't have a lot to say.
Luckily the British influence is pretty much history now. For instance in1967 the New Zealand Dollar replaced the New Zealand pound, the latter having been tied to the UK pound. I'm particular glad about the cord clamping w.r.t. food. Fish & Chips are yummy and an English breakfast is nice but the rest of English cuisine...

Well... I broke down and ordered a 16-50. It is supposedly on its way up here from Christchurch at the moment, so we'll see how that goes.

'Unfortunately' the guys at the camera store told me they'll give me a fantastic price on a K20 to go with it when I'm picking it up..... I don't think I'm going to manage to hold out...
(I have a K100 Super, so it should be a decent step up...)

Nice fireworks photo - shutter speed? (Exif is gone)

Transit (and others as I'm sure there's lots that don't know)- try the multi quote bottun the one with the " and + sign on it. Click that on each post you want to reply to, then on the last one click the main "Quote" button, then they all show up in your editing box and you can go through and reply to each one.
