GUB - it would be fair to say I am very happy with the purchase , but not gloating - honestly.

I am also not going to keep all of it - and will evaluate the lenses over the next few weeks, to see what I will keep.

So far the 105/2.8 and 100/f4 Macro are keepers - but then that was what I was after when I was bidding.

I still have to evaluate the rest - which I hope to complete over the next few weeks.

I am definitely not interested in keeping the ME Super Film Camera and associated equipment, hence the offer above.

Yeah it was a great buy. I was just chuckling as the shear uselessness of the goodies you are prepared to part with if you are a digital guy .
Individually I think there had to be $500-600 worth.

I am a digital guy - hence the kind offer to part with the film components at a very fair price.

My estimate of individual value is about the same as yours - possibly a little higher...hence my general happiness this week...

In my defense - I did ask for a buy now for the goods, and they said no...so all is fair

Does anyone think gimp is compromised by being 8 bit?
Yes, but it is not as big as an issue as it may seem.

Where 16-bit processing is crucial is when you bring in your RAW file using UFRaw. Once you have lifted shadows, recovered highlights, etc. the dynamic range of the adjusted image fits well into 8 bit.

So it is important to make the drastic image changes using the UFRaw sliders. Subsequently, 8 bit rarely seem to pose a real problem.

BTW, there are GIMP variants that support 16 bit, but I didn't pursue them myself for various reasons.

Thanks for that info.
I gather that jpgs are 8bit so if I want to stay 16bit I need to do tiffs after raw developing?
I gather that the next release of Gimp will be 16bit but there is no release date yet and they have been at it for a while.

Pretty good. It was taken from above Junction road in the Council Waitahinga watersupply reserve. The Council is letting us (tramping club) build a public walking track there and this photo is from a lookout on one of the short walks.

Nice
I'm mainly guessing, used to live on the Kauarapaoa Rd in my hippy days, went out by the top road a few times.
Apart from that one drive to the Patea dam is it

Nice images of the clean, green, Kiwi backyard. We only have a few hundred square meters which is fortunate as our little battery powered 'Enviromower' would never handle that crop!

Cow pooh is waaaaaaay better than calf pooh. Take your finest blue cheese and leave it in a plastic bag in the sun for a month!
