Mark, to be honest given your previous taste in MP's in the Waiarapa, I had come to the conclusion it was a more likely trait in your part of NZ. My only question, is it still mandatory in Masterton?
Have you seen the size of John Hays? So, no!

anything's possible...
my friend bought a K-5IIs 6 mths ago with 18-135 for $2700, NZ warranty of course
So the answer to that question is yes - that K3 sold overnight on the Buy Now

Performance is great. The only thing that annoys me is that bloody quick dial. It is totally useless and when bumped stuffs up the images. The 8.5 has CA at the edges when wide open but other than that is great. The uv + ir cut filter is going to be a useful tool. I will be getting more or them and they will be standard attachments on the old lens. I havn't tested what difference the filter makes with the K30 but I checked the camera and it can barely see the tv remote infrared output . The AA filter obviously cuts IR.

well I spent $1770 on the K-5 (with lenser) maybe 2 years ago so seems reasonable
That seller has flogged off a few 'unwanted gifts' Rich parents maybe

I have a 10 day tramp coming up down south and it is a tough job rationalizing my photo gear. Weight is an issue on longer tramps. I think the Q with the 01, an adapter, a M50/1.4 and a M28/3.5 will do the trick. So thats 30mm, 100mm and 200mm in apsc equivalence. Oh and 8 (that's right-8) batteries will hopefully be enuf. It all clocks in right on the 1kg.

Sounds like a pretty good plan. You will just have to do panorama shots if you want to go wider

2.2 pounds of Pentax goodness
That 1.4 is a heavy lump for no great advantage over the 1.7...
wanna borrow a 1.7 ?
8 batteries for 10 days...good luck ...maybe turn off review
Must be some kind of solar charger for these things ?
no, searched and there isn't

Na I've got plenty of 1.7s but you made me go and have a weigh up. 183gms vs 235gms so 50gms in it. But there is something special in the 1.4 that seems to carry thru to the Q. I have not had time to get been out and about with my 1.7s on the Q to make a comparison. I have only had a quick run with the 28mm and was very impressed-- think it may have portrait potential. The 1.4 should cover my closeup requirements. The uv+ir cut filter will be standard except when running a polarizer.
As far as batteries go I intend to keep sr off while the 01 is on and will turn off a lot more.
