Talking to IR Little I seems that the price for the kit with the 18-55WR will only be about $150 more than the body only price. That's as compared to AU$335 extra at Camera Action Camera House. That evens up our prices enough so that I'll definately be getting mine in NZ. I really like the idea of having a WR lens, and the initial image samples look pretty great. Saying that I do have the distinct advantage of working for a retailer.

Have yet to get an exact price although I should be able to tomorrow.

Good news that IRL are responding to the cold wind of trans-tasman trade

on the subject of cheap lenses
I see there is one person vacuming up all the takumars, K s and even sadly my nice M40 on TM
might be better than silver
I suppose users will get them eventually, but not in poor old Pentax starved NZ I bet

wow- you mean they talk to you? They haven't responded to my email!

I too like the idea of a WR lens, but I have the Sigma 17-70, which I way prefer to 18-55, I really found that too short. And thinking about my past usage, the only time I'm out in the rain (so far) is when photoing rugby with my 70-200 on.

Do you have an ETA?

I don't look at them, though they may have great IQ, I'm too lazy to use them!

Yep talked to someone there at sales, Kate I think, and she was very helpful.

While they don't have a exact date for arrival, they have been told it will definatly be mid July.

It's looking like we would be able to sell the kit for around $2600 (although the price on the shelf would have to be a bit higher). Even if you don't need the 18-55WR I'm pretty sure you could sell it for more than the diference in price (<$150)

I was just trying to write a good slogan for Pentax.

Does that mean I could come in and haggle for a lower price?

We probably couldn't do much better than $2600 for the kit. The price on the shelf would have to be at least $2799

Well i'm a bit torn. Having been a customer of WPS for years I do like them, and at least they do have some Pentax stuff there. But then if they can't match $2600 body only....

But then I'm not that keen on buying from a store that doesn't even stock any Pentax stuff.

That's understandable, I actually like WPS, the store has a nice feel to it and my dealing with the staff have always been pleasant. The problem with going anywhere less specialised is that it's a bit luck of the draw whether you get anyone who knows what they're talking about.

I just ordered my K-7 today, so anyone who is in the Wellington area who would like to have a look at it when it comes in mid July is more than welcome, just send me a PM.

Well, with your buy you could help persuade the manager that it is worthwhile stocking the K-7 and potentially more Pentax gear.

Not saying you should "betray" WPS but I wouldn't support steep pricing just out of loyalty either, if they chose to put a premium price tag on it. For me it is still "Wellington's Pricey Shop", but I'm happy to stand corrected.

Jimmy if we meet, and I say "Yes, get me one", how long til I got my sweaty paws on it?

I don't find WPS too expensive, about the same as others, what I've bought anyway. And their staff generally know their stuff, and certainly haven't tried to dissuade me from going with Pentax. When I bought my last camera bag there, I was probably there about an hour trying out bags, sticking my things into them to see if it would all fit etc. They were very patient and just left me too it basically. It was good.

I may have to borrow some money from the housekeeping though as I just bought a tamron 1.4x TC from someone here in the States. It's already on its way (presuming it's not just a bunch of rocks that is).
