What you are thinking of is "chroma" (or colour) noise.

Luminance noise (brightness fluctuations) is also noise; it was called "grain" in B&W film photography (due to the underlying physics) but with a sensor there is no real difference between chroma and luminance noise except in how it manifests itself.

Yeah I like the texture it does in the oof in that legume image. But the multicolour stuff looks awful.

New Q competitor

As there are many Q fans around here, you may take interest in noticing how tiny the K-S1 really is.

Come on, Ricoh!

I just wish it was weather sealed - then it would make a really nice small travel camera.

K-S1 (if WR), the DA20-40 Ltd and HD55-300WR and maybe one or two limited primes would make for a very nice, light WR travel or hiking kit.

The body weight (with battery) of the K-S1=558g, c.f. K-3=800g, K-5=740g, K-30, K-50, K-500=650g so it is a nice light camera comparatively.

Here is hoping they release a WR version soon - the rest is pretty good

Been thinking further about noise in the Q images. I think it might be worth pointing out that these images were developed from raw with darktable which means no in camera noise reduction was carried forward and I chose not to apply any myself
The earlier reviews I did on the reviews was via jpegs from the camera with NR set to auto I think.
Much less in this earlier review image.

The pasted section in the bottom of the window is a sample of how the image appears before PPing.

I repeat I quite like the grain in the original;

But just a small hit of denoise cleans things up in darktable:

Called into Huka Falls yesterday for a 10min pit stop break.
I always like to take in the vibe of camera ownership at touristy spots like this.
The trend is still for expensive DSLR's set to Auto, but there are obviously (is that fare?) far more iPhone type devices serving as cameras nowadays.

Out of the corner of my eye I did see an aqua DSLR though, with a rare name across the top too...

Looks like a couple of kilos of fluffy butter.
Wonder if it is the same on the inside...?

Typical example of the target market for those coloured cameras I think. Good on them.

Made a trip down Wellington way this weekend.
Turakirae Head looking across to the Kaikouras.
Wish I could order up a 3d image like this whenever I wanted.

Not being rude at all. I think it's great the way Pentax have all the colours for those that want them.
