I feel your pain...we've currently got a resident blackbird that does a car alarm every morning at sun-up...a perfect rendition of. Clever little blighter (but it doesn't pay to be too clever).

Such a nice day outside, today.
And the old 35-70mm lens is still quite sharp.
Ended up with both the manual and AF versions of this lens, both for the price of shipping off TM. The AF lens is a little beat up but the macro is still stunning for a zoom. Surprisingly I've always had better results with the MF 35-70 on the K-01 but since last use I've acquired a K-x so time for a head to head on that I think.

Find myself falling into the same trap that you can end up in with high-end audio gear where it's possible to become obsessed with the technical finesse of the gear rather than what it/you are producing -i.e. only listening to the way music is rendered rather than the music itself. That said, I guess the reason we choose a DSLR over a P&S is to take back ownership of the picture making process...

Guy next door has 8 prs of Quads with the sub base all with individual valve power amps, myriad input devices from SME 12 in on Garard 301 to Linn then all the cursed digital stuff, he's got 50 k CDs...they can't get it to go, the dedicated power supply tops out too soon

I like what you are thinking Mark. The F50/1.4 is a lens that gets very good reviews - they don't come up for sale that often though (I have been looking)
If we see one we'd have to make sure we don't start a bidding war.

You'll have Gareth Morgan camping at your place with talk of more cats! You could always vote for me. I'm a pinko left wing moderate - Somewhere between Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan.

Nothing a matched 4x set of EL34's can't cure!

fit for purpose is the issue
Very true.

The original purpose of the 77/1.8 was portraiture and I feel that it doesn't work ideally for that purpose on APS-C. For one, the perspective compression is stronger (with APS-C, you have to keep a longer distance to the subject for the same framing) and also the bokeh is not as pronounced (longer camera to subject distances causes less of background blur).

I'm sure the FA 77/1.8 has great purposes on APS-C as well, but I'm hoping it will come to a new life as a portrait lens on FF.

Mmmmm. I see Solid Energy has made another record loss - not selling enough coal - it seems. So yes, bring on a fatter cable!

Yes, that would be the way to do it. Although, probably best if you turn up with your own amplifier, and not just the valves.
Turning up with just the vinyl can work too...

Last time I pulled the vinyl out (a few years ago now) the kids asked ' what are those big black CD's Dad?'

Oh, the youth of today! Mine knows what I'm doing when I haul out the vinyl, but they don't see the point!
I do get the "look of death" from Annie when I try to haul out the '78's!

My kids found some cassette tapes and asked what they were. I laughed and said that's an old way we used to make music.
They looked up at me and then looked back to the tape confused, thought about it for a few seconds and then started blowing into it to see if that's how it worked...
