Wow-- sharp as- and a nice bokeh to boot.

Tried the ringflash with the Sup tak 50 f1.4 tonight.
Dumb as idea.
Had to shut it down to f11 to drop the light enuf even with the flash on 1/4 power.
So might as well used the 50mm macro which is designed for such work.
But something nice and different about this rose tho.
cropped a bit.

And what a great couple of years it has been doing that.
I have learned soooooo much.
I am guessing this forum has done that for a lot of you.

By any other name... nice rose.

You'll need a big round diffuser...or a pie plate ?? cut a hole for the lens, slide the pie plate on, reverse the ringflash, bounce... should knock the output without altering the flash direction.. ?

I have enjoyed learning lots of new stuff with photography over the past couple of years, with heaps more to learn....

Not working so hard, and getting more time to photograph is the challenge at the moment - it has been a very busy year.

Yeah-- got a set made up for my older ringflash. Made out of black card and velcroed on.

Great shot. I like the colours a lot.

I haven't tried it for that a lot as I have my own dedicated macro lens (Sigma 70/2.8 EX).

However, I once used the FA 77/1.8 on an extension tube ring and the rendering was really, really nice.

You can, of course, also just do plain macrops (macro crops). The FA 77/1.8 is so sharp, in particular when stopped down a little that sensor resolution will be the limit, not the lens performance.

I just can't see the need for 2 lenses within 4mm of each other of that sort of quality - tell me I am wrong....
These two lenses are both great performers but have different rendering and individual preference decides which one is "better".

I agree that it would be hard to justify having both.

I happen to really like the FA 31/1.8 both for what it delivers and what it is itself as an artefact.

Why am I not surprised that the bloke with a collection of 738 50mm lenses also has a collection of ringflashes...

I agree with what you are saying Class A - I wasn't suggesting one was better than the other, it was more about the justification of owning both.

I still really enjoy the Zeiss, but equally I am sure I would enjoy the FA31. I just happen to own one and not the other

Nice shot! If you want super macro with that lens, you can always turn it around!
How do you attach the lens? I remember back in my Pentax film days, I discovered the lens on Dad's Hanimex slide projector slid right out, as it was a fairly primitive arrangement, so I taped it to the front of my 35-70mm with duct tape or something and got some massive magnification along with loads of barrel distortion and virtually no DOF. I managed to get red beech flowers to come out just about as big as Gub's rose, and I think I recall a few extreme blowfly portraits.

It has a kind of nice dreamy quality to it without being really soft.

You buy a cheap "reverse mount adapter for K-mount" which has a screw thread that screws onto the filter thread. Then, you have the ability to mount the lens back to front. No electronic contacts, of course.
But, with a nice sharp lens, you can get extreme macro shots.

Seven-hundred and thirty-eight?!?!? I've seen strange collections, but not that. And as for ringflashes - I'll refrain from commenting altogether!
