Hi, number of shutter actuations (rather than max shutter speed) :-)
gamma1 (463 463 positive feedback) 4:57 pm, Mon 24 Jul
A. If i'm hearing you rightly there's 55. Starting at 30 sec to 1/8000 sec. 5:03 pm, Mon 24 Jul

No, it's how many times the take-a-picture button on top of the camera has been pushed. Try this: take a photo with the camera with the take-a-picture button on top. You'll know when you've done it because it'll make a kind of clicking noise, and a picture will come up on the back of the camera. Put that on your computer and go to this web site: https://www.pentaxforums.com/pages/check-shutter-count-exif.h

Nice and friendly instructions.

Doesn't look like the prospective buyers are any wiser now, as the seller did no appear to have shared the shutter count, did they?

Tempting! Although I'm not sure I want the 2.4Mpix version. Very good shots of the front and rear lens elements!

I was just reading the PF review of the KP earlier today and have begun thinking this could be a sensible next step post K-5. More Mpix, more features, more capable (e.g. focusing, low light performance, etc), it would all enhance my existing lens lineup. I've ummed and ahhed on how to extend my super zoom range beyond the current 450mm equivalent. By my calculations, assuming sufficient resolving power in the 55-300 lens, the extra pixels over the K-5 would make it like upgrading to 540mm equivalent.

On another topic, what's a K-5 with 12,800 on the clock worth these days? I'm thinking not a lot.

One of the advantages I noticed when I upgraded from the K-5 to the K-3 was the ability to crop more, and gain more detail in the crops.

Very nice indeed. I'd very much like that lens. And the KP. But, not on the cards at the moment I'm afraid. My K-5 will just have to do for now. I won't mind a K-1. But prices remain stubbornly high on those!

That KP is sooo tempting!! Basically new, and way cheaper then a K1
Has the price of it changed much since they came out at the start of the year, $1700 actually seems pretty reasonable.

They are on special in the USA at the moment, for USD $950. So, you could land a new one here including postage, GST and customs fees for about $1,600.

So that works out similar just without a lens and the extras then
I wonder if they'll be doing a bigger special around Christmas / Boxing day ... I could probably wait that long since I'll be going to Canada for Christmas!! ^_^

I would expect there will be Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials in the US again this year, and also, as you say around the holiday season. It is possible we will also see a flagship APS-C camera between now and then too. All of which mean there will be good buying opportunities in the next 6 months. On the flip side, the NZ dollar is relatively high against the US dollar at the moment, which may change dependant on our election result in a few months time.

Been playing some more with the Kepcor TC today.

There have been one or two kereru swinging by for a feast of kowhai leaves most days for the last couple of weeks. Below are two photos, each with a full frame scaled down (to appreciate the reach) and a 100% crop of the area of interest (to show the quality). Both shots at f/11, ISO3200, 300mm x2. Both on a tripod with 2 sec timer for stability and through a window (directly in front of the camera). No post processing of any kind has been done. Oh and both were manual focus, seeing as the 55-300 really doesn't like the TC when it comes to auto-focus.

In the first shot the bird is about 18m away. In the second about 7m.

If you mean "equivalent" to mean "FF equivalent" then yes (roughly).

Without using "FF money", the increase provided by the extra MP just results in "366mm" at the long end (instead of "300mm").
