Poll on the reasons for this.

"Important: as you can see on the photos, I used to have all the labels covered up to keep the camera anonymous while travelling."

And this was because...
I've seen this before. Strangely, some (mainly Pentax) camera owners feel they need to hide their allegiances when in the company of Canikon shooters. Why I don't know.

was at the farmers market this am...I continually shifted the label on my strap to attract other descerning Pentax users

Thought I'd better ask him a 'question'

I started doing that to cut down reflections when shooting through glass

I'll admit to having bundled a couple of cameras up in tape while travelling to make them look like they were broken and on their last legs.

Avoiding gear chats is just a bonus.

It's funny, some do it to hide what brand they shoot, some do it to cut reflections down, but many do it because a black body with that crisp white logo on it still attracts attention.. black blends in still....
On a side note, the K-1 Upgrade option being offered in the states and Europe, at this point looks like a Europe,USA only offer at this point I spoke with Ian Little this morning after fielding several calls from K-1 Customers. It seems Ricoh/Pentax are considering offering it as a global thing, but at this point they are trying to control the service centres where the upgrade is being done, it seems only one or 2 in the USA, and maybe 3 in the UK/Europe will be offering it, so they may do the same for the rest of the world and any camera would need to go via the local distributor. Good chance if it is offered here and Oz that they will either go to Melbourne or home to Japan.

CRK will offer the K-1 upgrade.
No idea whether the work will be done locally or not, though.

The good thing about being late to the party (like usual for NZ) is we will have some insight into whether it is worth the effort. Sounds like there might be pure and simple major gains in normal usage (low to mid Iso) IQ.
The hard part will be to tear it out of my grasping hands to send it away.

Pricing for the K-1II has been announced for NZ.... we are looking at $3399 Incl GST body only Which compared to importing from B&H and using 72c as the US exchange rate, the kiwi price is about $150 more expensive than from B&H, but does not require customs codes etc... Deliveries are due to start later this month, but will initially be in small numbers

Sorry for all the posts... but more good news for us Pentaxians.... The NZ price of pretty much all the available Pentax lenses has dropped unexpectedly from today... Check out all the pricing Some glass has dropped Significantly ie our price on the D-FA 24-70mm f2.8 has dropped from $2800 to $1999, the D-FA 70-200 f2.8 has dropped from $3800 to $2899!

That's terrible news... for my wallet. Actually, after "rediscovering" the M lenses plus learning to appreciate my f/1.4 50mm I'm like a pig in slop at the moment. My only thing lacking is time to play.

I've just done the Pentax survey. Interesting results. I did not realise WR was such a popular feature. I was happy to see AF improvements topping the hardware wants (along with IQ), but found the software enhancements a bit of a mixed bag for me - seems like everyone wants something different.

Yeah the results are quite interesting. Clearly more interest in purchasing the top end cameras, both APS-C and FF, much more than the mid tier ones for example.

Seen this guys?

I found that a really difficult question to answer. I went *istDS, K10D, K-5, K-P, and every one was a significant upgrade from the last. So... do I buy high end or mid-tier? I don't even know which one the K-P is. It's missing K-3 features, but has way more than the K-5. Is the 6 year age difference to blame? It's like it's tier 1.5 or something. #shrug

While I'd like one, I'd have to keep dreaming. My wife may still understand a $3,399 bicycle purchase but a camera......

Yeah the KP was a weird one, model placement wise. It really is a new tier between the mid and top. It's almost like Pentax thought they could palm that off as a K-3 replacement, but in some areas the K-P is ahead, and in others it's quite a while behind the K-3 level specs. Agree with the #shrug comment on that one.

Wow, these are breathtaking reductions!

I may become tempted now...
