Your FA 77/1.8 Ltd quietly sobs in the corner...

What a creamy bokeh on this one!
I was very positively surprised by my FA* 200/2.8 as well; seems Pentax knows how to build longer focal length lenses...

Nah not yet. Did take photos for our city's Business Awards dinner the other night - in a dimly lit gym! Worked out okay though, better than the year before anyway I reckon. The "Chamber of Commerce" person asked if I was available for other stuff too. And got another wedding (unfortunately ) on 29 December. I do say no to weddings, but then get talked around. At least I now have 2 cameras (bought a 2nd hand D7000 to go with the D300s) so I feel a bit more comfortable. It'll be my 3rd digital wedding (did a film one years ago).

Thanks for the website comment, I often wonder what people's perceptions are of it, and would be happy for anyone to have a gander and comment. I realise it's not state of the art, but hopefully functional and not too ugly. I have considered paying someone to to do something better, but that's as far as I've got.

I can't quite understand Pentax's lens thinking. I'm sure others make a mint off their 70-200/f2.8 ones, and it was the lack of that that helped make me leave the brand, along with the no TC thing. Presumably they've decided to concentrate on the primes etc. but I think they'd do well out of that zoom range. f4 just doesn't cut it.

I don't suppose anyone has a free telephoto to borrow for a week around 12-19 December?

I must overlook the difference?

Also, just for a family wedding in Bay of Islands. I have a 70mm Limited which is great but I don't use it much, tend to use the 31mm and crop if need be. But if anyone had something around 200mm free...

New here

Hi Guys,
I just bought Transit's Sigma Apo 70-300 on Trademe, and while sorting out payment asked about sources of other Pentax gear.
I've actually spent quite a bit of time on this site researching lenses, but I didn't realise there was an active Kiwi Pentax community.
I started out with a Pentax clone - a Cosina back in 1986, which I broke crossing a river in the Torlesse Range, then replaced it with a second hand Pentax P-50 in 1989, which came with a Tokina 70-210 to add to my Cosina 35-70mm, then later on I acquired a Tokina 28-200mm with 1:4 macro at 200mm. That ended up being my workhorse lens for the P-50 for quite a few years, but in late 2003 I started out with digital, first with a compact then a couple of Fuji bridge cameras as my budget would allow, and the Pentax fell into disuse.
I was achieving nice results with my bridge cameras, but I still wanted more, and earlier this year managed to pick up a brand new K-x as a clearance stock item, with the 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses.
I was most disappointed for a while when I found I couldn't use my old Tokina 28-200 on it, but recently via this site discovered that many Tokina lenses have a flange that needs removal to fit modern DSLRs, which can be safely done with no impact on functionality.
I've been quite impressed with the kit 18-55, but not all that happy with the 50-200, hence the quest for better lenses as I can afford them. I've already picked up a Pentax f1.7 50mm prime on Trademe, although it turned out the A setting won't register, so I'm stuck using it as full manual. It seems the little pin that is supposed to engage when turned to A priority mode doesn't pop up. If anyone here knows how these are supposed to work, let me know.
My main interests are landscapes and natural history (at any scale from big down to macro), although I'll give anything a go.

Welcome to the kiwi Pentax community, and to this thread.

With regard to purchasing lenses - TradeMe and the PF Marketplace on this site are worth watching. Also, sometimes on this thread lenses will be offered before they go on TM.

I hope you enjoy your time here, and getting to know the various members.

All the best with your photography.

Ross
