This new DA16-85 just seems like it will be a very good semi wide angle to moderate tele walk around lens....

What to do, what to do
Depending on the IQ and speed, certainly quite a tempting lens. I'm broke as usual, but this is one my wife might even approve of as it might avoid having to change lenses probably about 80% of the time, and since she uses the camera too, and gets frustrated when I've left a manual focus prime on, this could actually promote marital harmony as long as she doesn't see the price tag.

Such a nice day outside, today.
And the old 35-70mm lens is still quite sharp.

It has been very warm on this side of the Island. Nice image Mark - F35-70? I have one of those, haven't had it out of the bag for a while - but I agree, it is a good wee lens . I like the Macro at 70mm too - very useful

I live in the South Island within a few hours drive of a lot of the LOTR movie sites - it is indeed avery beautiful part of the world. I have also walked around the Hobbiton set in Matamata. If you ever get the chance it is a great place to visit. Your camera will certainly get a work out there.

How open is the government of NZ to allow tourists for employment?
I would like to know! My camera is excited!

Yes I can imagine my self having a ultra wide angle lens for landscape photos and macros for flowers, animals, and nearby subjects!
Is it very costly in NZ?

If you do come, just make sure that you have the appropriate visas and other documentation. Like a lot of other governments, ours also takes a dim view of tourists engaging in paid work. NZ is not a particularly cheap place to visit but the concensus seems to be that it is well worth the visit. If you do decide to head this way, there are plenty on this thread that will give you advice, etc. Cheers.

Yes Ross, the SMC-F35-70mm with Macro. Quite loud on the autofocus, but still one of my favourites from the film days. I've always hoped to find one of the 50mm ones of the same era. :-)

I like what you are thinking Mark. The F50/1.4 is a lens that gets very good reviews - they don't come up for sale that often though (I have been looking)

the place is a tip, we cut down nearly all the forest, the rivers and streams are polluted with cow shit, our population are dumbed down and demoralised by 40 years of mismanagement and treasonable sell offs, with attendant unemployment and gang growth. We incredibly re-elected a tragically moronic center right government intent on riding the oil/frack wave. China is in the process of buying the place and the yanks are trying to capture our sovereinty via a 'free' trade treaty

but apart from that... all good, I have apple trees flowering and native birds singing

Now you are just describing Wanganui mate

The rest of the country is no where near as bad as you describe - and it is a photographers paradise in reality.

If you want to visit a really seriously degraded environment there are bits of China that provide much better examples
