Pretty sure Ross is still rocking an APS-C model, so 1800mm equivalent!
Yes, K-3 at this point. I think I might have just spent my K-1 budget on a lens...

Thanks Pete, we have given Matt a really good send off today - it all went well.

He loved dancing, so there is a rave tonight in his memory.
Glad to hear Ross

Thank you Hayden for doing this for me. I am running out of words, and broken at the moment guys.

Matthew died of heart failure as a result of an underlying infection. Too many questions about this, but we are working with the coroners office to get to the bottom of it.
I've only just seen this now. I don't really know what to say, but I'm really sorry for you and your family.

I was not much older than your son when I got meningitis almost 20 years ago, and it was touch and go that I made it, my organs were starting to fail, and the only reason I made it to hospital was an elderly friend showed up and made sure I got there after I'd already been extremely sick for 24 hours.

Somehow I made it through, although I still have the invisible scars as the infection destroyed one of my ears so I have no directional hearing, and somewhat less balance than when I was younger.

I still don't know why I got a second chance at life, and why someone like you has to lose a son to some infection.

It's not photography, but I sometimes indulge in other creative pursuits, so I thought I might share something I wrote just over a week ago, in case it's perhaps relevant.

The Fantail.
Consider the fantail,
a cheerful, fearless little bird,
though she endures but a few cycles of the seasons,
before her chatter is forever stilled.
Our lives are little more to the trees,
who count centuries to our decades,
if in jealousy we do not force them to share our fate.
When like the fantail I fall,
mourn not my passing,
but recall what joy I shared,
and bury me not among the dead,
but amongst the living,
so perhaps one day above my head,
in leafy branches a fantail might sing.

Nice! It's certainly poignant for me – as people arrived at Dad's funeral, there was bird song playing, something he had wanted. Now every time I hear a distinctive bird call – tui and grey warbler particularly – I think of him. And, fantails are cool.

Even when they don't have a fan tail.

Love it.

Fleur captured this one, but it looks a bit stern.

It looks like it's about to break out in some Irish dancing. I can just picture Lord of the Dance or Riverdance.

I'm happy the poem means something to you.

Looks like your fantail is trying to pretend to be a grey warbler, but looks a bit uncomfortable about it.

They are all such fantastic images... i havent got anything like that anymore... i did have for years in the shop a pic taken with an original *ist D and FA 200mm f2.8 lens of a Bantam rooster that was incredible, the sharpness of the lens picked up all the detail in the roosters eye, and in the plumage. My old boss Max took the image on his holiday property in Central Otago, ive always thought it was incredible... must try and find it again, scan it and post it

I've just cleaned (the outside surfaces) of the SMC-F 35-135mm lens I got on TM for the princely sum of $24. Tiny fungus spot behind front element and some light haze and a bit of fungus behind rear element. For $24 I can't really complain and the fungus does not seem to impact the images. I wonder if it's possible to get in there and clean those surfaces!

Odd. I expected it to be useless!
