I see that K-1 package went for $3,500. Which of you lucky buggers?

Fun for some in Palmy at the end of the month.
Anyone thinking of going to Mark Gee in Palmy this Saturday, apparently tickets are required though it is free.

That is most likely the one from the recent package deal. Seems the buyer was after the lenses, or just reselling everything separately.

I just checked out the sellers other listings, and every single item from the previous package has been listed sperately, the Metz 44, lenses are all seperated. If all the buy nows are hit they stand to make about 1200, or if reserves are met, about 400 on what it sold for as a pack.
I was hoping it had gone to someone who was going to use it and love it, not just a speculator

I agree.

However, a positive spin on the events is that now the items are available separately which they have not been before.

Been playing more with the M200 that awa355 kindly sent me. I'm really starting to love it. The bokeh when composed right is just beautiful.

I'm making it hard for myself aiming at cats, who often refuse to sit still, but I've been getting a reasonable hit rate by green-buttoning first then worrying about focus. I'm finding the green button can overexpose by a stop or two in contrasty situations but so far all of the shots have been usable. I calculated that at the nearest focus distance (around 2m) I have only 15mm of DOF at f/4 so it's a bit of a challenge and a nice reward when done right.

I do find the effect on the eyebrow whiskers intriguing. It's almost like the whisker is sharp, but there's another, blurred version behind it. Other parameters were ISO400, 1/250.

Look at that goregous, creamy bokeh!

Pentax K-1 on TradeMe

I sent an email about the TradeMe the listing for the K-1 to my son in Paraparaumu this morning, only to get a phone call this evening from him saying "Should I buy it? I really want it."

Any rate, to cut to the chase, he purchased the K-1 and the HD Pentax 28-105 lens. Picking them up on Sunday. I'd say for the $2,200 for the K-1 alone he made a good purchase.

Looking forward to trying it out when he comes down to Christchurch sometime.

Regards

Chris

anyone have any experience with the Tamron 17-50 f2.8?

Thinking of getting one to upgrade from the Pentax 18-55mm kit lens.

Sigma do a 17-50 f2.8 and 17-70 f2.8-4.0 also, but these appear a bit more expensive, and I think the zoom turns the opposite way to the Pentax native lenses. -And yes this will annoy me

I don't have any personal experience, but I remember that it enjoyed an excellent reputation around the time the 16-50/2.8 SDM failure era. I also remember having read a review that compared the Pentax 16-50/2.8, the Tamron 17-50/2.8 and a Sigma (I think it was a 18-50/2.8). Both Sigma and Tamron were often better than the Pentax and there was not much to differentiate them.

I wouldn't expect too much acuity at f/2.8 but the lens should definitely give you more options than the kit lens.

Remember that it's an APS-C lens, i.e., it won't grow with you if you ever to decide to go FF. The Tamron 28-75/2.8, which also enjoyed a very good reputation during the same era, is an FF lens. It probably won't be wide enough for your needs, though.
