These are cool bananas - On 50mm these short ones if you are full frame - for apsc there is a longer variation that you can just get away with. They have a 58 mm thread just inside the front which means you can leave them on the lens. Buy them and the lens caps by the bucket load from Ali and you are grinning.

Lens Hood Rubber Three Way 49mm | Trade Me
Thanks. Do they work on FF?

Just noticed they have 3 positions so I guess either mid way or fully extended should work.
Thanks.

Yes I'm FF so might need the shorter version or just cut the rubber one down on that TM one

I was surprised how much difference in hooding when i went to FF. I think the one Mark has pointed out would vignette with 50mm on FF. Some of the rubber ones have a halfmast position and that might work.

I think I bought some of the longer ones, but but I think even on APS-C at 50mm they vignette a bit. They're fine on longer lenses, although I think my F 70-210 isn't going to get much more use.

My long ones are about 41mm from the glass. Even wide open on my A 50 1.7 I can not see it.
Not sure of this but did some sums. Diameter hood 58mm. Diameter glass 29mm. Height hood 41 mm.
According to my secondary school trig that puts the outer rim 19.5 degrees out from the glass. x2 = it should handle a 39 degree FOV. for the 50mm apsc fov 32 degrees , FF 47 degrees (diagonal). So as I have found in the field good for apsc and not good for FF.
But someone needs to check the maths out!!

Yes, even if the fully extended position vignettes, the other two positions should be fine.

Yes, I believe body only.
The only crop lenses I have are the kit lens that came with the K5 and the 8mm Rokinon I've only just acquired about a month back.

That's a pretty decent sort of upgrade.
Unfortunately it's PF and not official Ricoh. Now if only Ricoh themselves could be made aware that there are actually people in NZ who use Pentax gear.
