It occurred to me this week that the ability of DxO PhotoLab 3 to extract the sharpest images by lens profiling might somewhat negate the previously agreed "sweet spot" of the DA55-300 lens series being f/11.
During lockdown I've been leaving the camera near the back door with my DA55-300 WR lens attached and, as usual, set to Av mode and f/11. So, a couple of days ago I flicked it to f/8. There's been a lot of rain since then, but we've also had a frequent visitor eating the greenery on our large flowering cherry tree and taking the occasional drink from a water bowl.
This shot is full frame height and... I'm totally fine with the result. It wasn't the brightest of conditions so the ISO rode up to 6400. I might consider pegging that back to 3200, which would still have given me 1/125 in this scenario.
The real test will be some up-close-and-personal shots of the smaller feathered friends or some well lit aircraft.
