Originally posted by NZ_Ross I was tracking a TM auction this evening for a Contax T2 that was in very tidy condition. I had no intention of bidding, but was interested in what it would sell for.
This is a compact film camera, nice lens, and full of electronics that is basically unrepairable if it stops working - so there are some risks. They are considered fashionable and sought after.
The T2 this evening sold for $1,730. I am sure the seller will be happy
I am going to say it - that is just mad.
Had to search to see what that was and there is one on Amazing at the mo with a price US$1250. Possibly what was driving the bidders here but it is madness. End of the day a film camera is just a box to put the film in. And in this case just a sad little conservative lens. I have never been a labels person and I guess it shows here.
Which reminds me on sunday week I am viewing a camera collection that an elderly lady wishes to part with.
I try and show restraint and limit myself to stuff that fits my camera. But there appears to be over a 100 cameras.
And we also intend to give her some advice on marketing.
Of course the trick here is a lot of the cameras are not worth much at all and it is the art of spotting the valuable ones for her.
For instance it appears to be an early 3d on the table. The Rollieflex 120 have high reserves on them in TM but I havn't seen one sell. Obviously the plate camera will command a bit. I must emphasis I am not interested in profiteering in this situation and wish to give her good advice. I will offer for the pentax stuff.
Is anyone a serious collector or have a collector contact?
I suspect a bulk buy would be the best bang for buck for both parties. An auction house would offer her sod all I imagine.
There is a couple of people with me that might buy a bit.
I am most interested in the lady getting a fair deal. Any ideas?
