I went on the fast ferries a few times, a really good service. They got stopped as they were churning up the sea floor in the Sounds, and causing all sorts of havoc with the marine life as a result.

It's an interesting one. On a personal level I much prefer the optical viewfinder (especially in the camera price bracket I can actually afford) but I do recognise it's limitations.
From another angle you can argue mirrorless is a more pure camera form, in terms of you get to see exactly what the film is actually seeing, rather than an optical approximation of what's going to be captured.
Both are through the lens but I really love the digital focus aids that just aren't available if the camera computer can't see the actual image. This is great for both manual focus work but also for portraits with focus assistance smarts around face and eye recognition etc.

Interesting. I came to Pentax DSLRs from a couple of bridge cameras, and appreciate the OVF. One thing I particularly like is battery life. With a lens in manual focus mode or quick shift, I can play around with possible compositions without even bothering to turn my camera on if I'm not sure whether the subject merits further consideration. Out somewhere in the wilderness, not having to worry about eating up batteries is a real consideration.

Apparently the mirrorless process doubles up on shutter wear and tear. I guess it has to shut the shutter first before it fires.

I know the Russians did quite a bit of work on ground effect craft, but they never seem to have been commercialised anywhere, and I guess their may be both economic and operational reasons why not.

Ah, the old Caspian Sea Monster. There was a much smaller version which although not commercially successful, was far more practical.

Yes best video I have seen on them. But it is not "crazy" it is good technology. But it shares the same shortcomings of hovercrafts - lack of avoidance manoeuvrability. And you are in a 2D space so you can't "stack" like aircraft.

Things are a bit stirred up after that spottie with 7 element 50/1.4 sold for $500+.
I think TM can be quite reactive - I sold a rough Mamiya/Sekor for a modest price the other day and now there are several Mamiya SLR listings.
It is a habit I do myself but I think 90% of "watchlister's" are just there to see if there is a market and a value for something.
Plus despite it being a recession I have the sense there is more discretionary spending out there.

NZers spend 10 Billion a year on overseas travel, so that is going other places at the moment

Crikey! I know that's only $2000 a year each but an awful lot of people don't go anywhere, so someone is making up the numbers. Is that just leisure travel? I've spent money going overseas exactly 3 times in my life. 1998, 2012, and 2019. On a yearly basis, as an adult, that's probably less than $300 per year in today's money.
