See it here - Weta - Puketi Forest Trust, Northland, New Zealand.
and here - New Zeland Tree Weta - Pentax User Photo Gallery

I'm happy for them to use it for nothing, being a good cause 'n all, but I'd like to educate them, and should really have a photo credit.
Pixsy - Find and Fight Image Theft is a service you can sign up for for free, and on a free plan, can have it monitor up to 500 images. If you're a prolific online poster, that's not much, bit it's enough get get some sort of picture of how much people are using your images.
It's up to you whether you take action or not, and what sort of action you take.
Depending on whether the site is commercial or not will have some impact on my thinking. If they're making money through the help of my photos, I want to too. If they're a non-profit, I'll take it on a case by case basis. 'Non-profits' are just that - they aren't allowed to operate for profit, but some still have substantial budgets, and things like websites often get covered by grants or donations, and they'll acknowledge their sponsors. If they've used me as an 'involuntary sponsor' without recognition, when they've acknowledged other sponsors, I'm liable to get grumpy.
If I'm asked for permission in advance, I'm generally happy to let non-profits use my images.

It is polite to ask permission, and I guess that is the point that needs to be made

I loved that camera! I did outgrow it however.

Okay I'll be nice and just ask for a credit and link I think, as well as the educational part of it.

Good on you Arpe, 'treat others how you want to be treated' is a very old, and still very valid rule of life

I still remember the giddy excitement of my *istDS purchase. SIX megapixels and could take my old Sigma lenses from the MZ-50. Bliss.

Same here with my *istDS, which I still have! The SMC-A lenses that I had used with my MX were easily pressed into service.

I don't have mine. Every camera gets sold once the newer one arrives. I was just going through an exercise of finding when I got each camera. I didn't remember moving on from the *istDS so quickly! I vaguely recall it had shortcomings that I was struggling with but no idea what those were now.

Dec 1986 Cosina CS-1 (12 years)
Oct 1998 Pentax MZ-50 (8 years)
Sep 2006 Pentax *istDS (1 year!)
Aug 2007 Pentax K10D (3.5 years)
Jan 2011 Pentax K5 (6.5 years)
Aug 2017 Pentax KP (3.5 years and counting)

Funny thing. While researching one of those dates, I came across an old blog post, on which was the following comment:

I have all three of my Pentax DSLRs still (and my film Pentax for that matter, although not my first Cosina, as that got broken crossing a stream - I think Broken River was quite literally the name of the place.

My daughter uses my K-x, and my K-50 has aperture block failure, although 'exercising' it seems to bring it back to life. Hanging on to it proved useful when I accidentally left my K-70 in Canterbury at friends' house last summer, so I still had a camera to use till I got it back.
Given global supply disruptions at present, and relative scarcity of Pentax in NZ at best, I quite like the idea of having a backup camera.

I gave my daughter my K5 and she puts it to use. When I need a backup, I borrow it back from her. I've not had enough time for photography of late, too many other commitments.
And I seem to keep acquiring SFX and SFXn cameras. LOL

I messaged them. Asked for credit and a link, so they've replaced my photo!

Now I'll sue them - kidding

1976 - KM
1977 - MX+winder
2006 - *istDS
2012 - K-5
2015 - K-3II

The KM was stolen from my car in 1977, replaced by the MX. Like Mark, I’ve passed the K-5 to the next generation; my son who uses it with the 35/f2.8 Limited Macro. I got another KM from fleabay around ten years ago, alongside a K2 fitted with a SMC 50/f1.2 which is now my favourite film camera.

What a poor response.

Were they apologetic about having used the image without permission at all?

Their response:

"I apologise for the use of your image in the Puketi Kids website without your authorisation. The website was first produced in 2008 and the original web site designer has long since gone. I have removed the image and will replace it with one of a Puketi weta."

Brief and to the point!

Yes, indeed.

Nice that they apologised. Hope they have explicit permission to use the new one and think it would have been better to leave yours but credit it.

I concur, I'm not going to check to see if their new one is legit however!
