Too cold for me, I'd just step outside every now and then to take a look. Stayed out for a couple of minutes past 11:11 then off to bed.

Trickier than I expected. Less light than the eye suggests. I didn't know how slow I could go with the old Soligor 800mm so settled at 3/10 sec f11 and probably at least iso6400.
But there wasn't a lot of detail was there? I guess due to the straight on light.
Lovely shot!

Here's my attempt. (Well, i took quite a few - I must still trawl through and see if there are any better ones.) There was a wisp of cloud and lots of dew, so not ideal.

I took more than 80. Focus bracketing took up a lot.
See the best image in Stuff .co. The orientation is different to ours. I wonder if he pinched the shot from somewhere.

One of those lucky ones.
Scored this a couple of weeks ago. It has just turned up.
The seller was also selling computer parts and forgot to post this in photography - instead it was under "lcd Monitors"
So I ended up with ;
FA 100mm 2.8 macro
F 35-70
Sigma 18-50
Tokina 100 - 300
Tokina 28mm 2.8
a istD (don't know if it works yet.)
a nice Vivitar ring flash, extension tubes , Vivitar x2 macro teleconverter

And in FD Canon
2x 50 f1.8s
kit zoom
and a FD 100mm f2 which is rather rare. (Only 2 on Ebay asking US$1000+)
Selling it to a fellow club member for $100 ( I am guessing I could get $200 - $300 on TM)

So I am grinning.
I chased another 100mm 2.8 macro the other day to $180 ( + two kit zooms) and would have chased it further except I already had this one in the bag. Ironically the only 2 I have seen on TM.
So good fun

Gotta be the Pentax ugliest lens.
It is interesting - I have just done 40 pages of the sold section and for every F or FA sold (for sale) there would be 5 -10 DFA 100mm 2.8s.
Do you think there is simply less out there or are they a piece of glass people don't sell?

Only Mrs Pentax would love it :-)
Mind the AF doesn't rip the K-1 out of your hand :-D
Didn't know you can survey the sold items ?
I always thought the more expensive stuff didn't make it here what with our modest market

I've only ever seen one 50 1:1.2
Mine was just an unknown 'portrait lens' thrown in with a $200 K100D

I mean that "sold items" up in marketplace. Not all have sold tho.
I think we have a surprising amount of less common lenses come up on TM.
I have ended up with that FA 400 , a FA 135 2.8, this FA 100 2.8 - all reasonably uncommon. Also a 400-600 K mirror which is rare as. A Revuenon 55mm 1.2. But thankfully there is only a handful of people looking and bidding.
What I am noticing is there is a bit less coming thru now.

I've had to restrain myself, as some interesting lenses have come up recently, but I've thought about what use cases I'd have for them, and although there have been some nice lenses, I've tended to pass on them.

After a couple of tramping expeditions, I've thought a bit more about what I'd want to carry to cover the majority of situations and I think the DA 16-85, DA* 60-250 and D-FA 100 2.8 macro would just about make the ideal tramping kit, as they're all weather sealed, and would cover most of what I'd want to photograph, without taking too many lenses. Primes are nice, but realistically, I'm not likely to want to walk long distances with a bunch of them on my back.

One lens I really wanted, but didn't have the money for at the time it was on TM was a DA* 60-250 f/4. They don't come up often, and new they're sitting up around the price of a K-3 III, so it will be a while till I can afford one.

Currently my kit has been Sigma 10-20 F/4-5.6 D-FA 100 2.8 macro, D-FA 28-105, and Tamron 70-200 2.8. That's quite a bit of weight to carry, and neither the Tamron or Sigma are weather sealed or have quick shift. I've managed some nice small bird photos with the Tamron, so the extra 50mm of the 60-250 should be adequate, and it's about 100g lighter. Having an ultra wide angle like the Sigma was nice for landscapes, but I was surprised how much I could do with the 28-105 even though it's more suitable as a standard zoom on full frame, so I think 16-85 would be perfectly adequate. If I can photograph fungi, landscapes, and birds, I'm pretty much covered for my interests.

Give us a yell if you are letting the Tammy go...
I contemplated the 60-250 for a while with the FF mod..
Seems a bit overpriced. I just picked up the F 70-200 4-5.6 and it is small and light...

If it is a really weight conscious tramp then it is the A28mm and A 50mm 2.8 macro. There is not really much weight solution for telephoto. If I am expecting something like a Whio then my best telephoto for the job is an old Nestar 400mm. But always the K-1 .

What are the good lenses > 300mm these days? I covet the 150-450 but my Lotto ticket hasn't covered that yet.

The 150-450 is probably your only Option if AF is a requirement..
I forked out $800 for that FA 400. I took the plunge because AF is a hell of an advantage with long lenses. Probably technically better than my Pentax K 400 manual focus.
Thing is when I scanned those 40 pages of sales in marketplace I didn't see one FA 400 for sale. There is only one on Ebay at the mo and it is for stupid money.
So it doesn't leave you with a lot of options. Probably a reason to stay apsc because of the crop effect meaning you are there with 300s.
I am not a zoom person so that 400 was a godsend.
