Yeah for various reasons I needed to get the wr kit lens with it so I realise that reduces the price gap. Just looking through my receipts my charges were:
AU$ 1826 for the single lens kit including a 3year warranty at a cost of AU$40 and shipping at a cost of AU$76.
This worked out to NZ$2295 including what the bank call "offshore service margins" of NZ$47.
When I picked up the camera from fedex's customs depot the customs charges were NZ$313
Total: $2611.
The camera itself is great though. Love the viewfinder and the body size. Unfortunately I'm trying to finish off my masters thesis so I haven't had enough time to play with it yet.

I ordered a Sigma through Electron World. It was sent straight from Hong Kong I think. Unfortunately, when the lens turned up it turned out to be in Canon mount. Electron World refunded me the shipping back to Napier, and re-ordered a Pentax mount. The lens was back-focusing (but this is no unusual issue with Sigmas), and I ended up getting a refund.

Electron World's communication is pretty slow through email, and a phone call might be better. But they seemed an honest enough trader to me.

Hi guys

Looking at doing some canvas prints around the 1meter size. Any recommendations. It doesn't matter where in the country as I travel a fair amount.

Cheers
Eddie

Yep. Sometimes my middle finger is faster then my index finger.

Well I have got information from quite a few companies that do canvas print and the next step will be to find out why there is such a big price difference. I guess it have to do with the material used.

I haven't printed on canvas. But in my opinion the big price difference in normal prints is justified. Image lab in Wellington does the best prints I have seen, and they do canvas prints too, as well as pretty much any other type of print you could want. I think they are in Chch and Auckland as well.

Thank you. I will have a look at what they can offer. It looks like they don't have a shop as such in Auckland but I will contact their Auckland rep.

Electron World:
Sigma flash - $370
plus shipping $40
plus Visa $12 (use credit card so it can be reversed later if need be)
plus GST $50
total = $470!!

Talk about false advertising! Well maybe not false, but not a true indication of what you will end up paying.

Interesting with the GST. My understanding is that legally a price is including GST unless stated. How do they get around it? It is after all sold through a shop in New Zealand.
It pays to be careful with the parallel importers.

Indeed that's my thinking. I emailed them/him/her and the reply:

"Any additional charges, ie taxes/duties are the buyers responsibility as these are out of our control, some countries charge them, some do not.

It depends what you are looking at though as to whether GST is chargeable.. anything under $400 does not fall under the NZ customs ‘radar.

For tax purposes we are happy to mark the price of the goods down to show a much lesser value for this purpose.

Otherwise you pay only the cost of the item and shipping ."

I don't think they can legally sell the item like that. I have a feeling that they don't pay any GST on their sales and me wonder how you can legally defer the GST payment to the customer.
