I'm game, but I have to know at least a week in advance so I can get the time off work.

Sounds like a great idea, it would depend on the date for me though.

Well... who else can do the 19th? If majority not, then we can go for the 26th. We've been doing Saturday meetups, but could Sundays also work?

Like most, I just need a date at least a week in advance - so let's get the "yeahs" and "nays" on the 19th for now.

Me: 19th = yeah

Saturday or Sunday should be fine for me on either weekend.

If we end up going to Centre Island will we be meeting up somewhere on the harbourfront before heading over?

Any idea what the boat's cost is, how many people the boat can carry or if there are any logistical concerns? I've never been over to the island before.

Yep. Harbourfront Centre has parking, TTC stops, and is close-ish to Union Station. We could meet at the foot of York and Queen's Quay and go across as a group.

You'd love it over there if you like; birds, boats, trees, panoramas, beaches (currently deserted), cooler temps, or small aircraft flyovers. There are no private cars allowed on the islands, so getting around is human-powered, and its about 4km from one end to the other. Centre Island park is closed due to the strike, so no tram or attractions (or crowds).

As for boats, due to said strike, the "replacement" boats are smaller (~40 people max) but still on a schedule for island residents and their guests, and it's still $6.50 for the round trip. Or about $10/per for a water taxi at any time with a decent sized group. Logistically, most of these small boats don't allow bikes to be taken across like the big ferries do, so wear your walking shoes!

Here are some shots from Friday when I was over there...

Cool! Sunday, July 26th it is. I'll be there with my panohead!

If the strike is still on, I'll probably go across *before* lunchtime to eat on the deck of the Ward's Island Association cafe. Anyone else who can head out (from the York/ Queen's Quay docks) at Noon on that Sunday is welcome to join me for tasty sandwiches and coffee in the shade on the island side.

Why not the morning?
The temperature will be much more comfortable if it should turn out to be a hot day.
Traffic and parking will be much lighter.
The crowds will be smaller.
Transportation to the island, if the strike is still on, will be easier to obtain.
The lighting will be more dramatic.
And we will have more hours to do our thing.

Yes. I am a morning person.

We can meet you over there!

I think early morning is quite a bit harder for church-goers and out-of-towner's and those taking public transit. I'm all for starting any time after 10AM, but my "shooting hand" is useless before 2 cups of coffee have settled in.
