Both Adorama and B&H have event space, which seem like fitting locations for such an event, though I'm not sure of the costs involved.

I would suggest B&H and J&R so you get mid town and downtown. B&H and Adorama are really close to one another.

Or how about Times Square and Wall Street... probably the two top tourist destinations with lots of picture takers so you can draw the loyal as well as the uninformed.

Seattle Locale

You might also consider the Seattle Art Museum Olympic Sculpture Park near Pier 70.

JCPentax (John), will you be creating a sticky for each of the events so folks can sign up and follow details specific to their location?

Thanks!

Portland Locale

I second Pioneer Courthouse Square

There is good shooting in the adjacent areas of uptown Portland that would include:
  • South Park Blocks
  • Area adjacent to City Hall (Portlandia!)
  • Keller Fountain area south

Not far away is the Waterfront Park and Riverplace Esplanade and Marina.

Photo ops:
  • Street photography
  • Vendors
  • Architecture (old and new)
  • Public sculpture
  • Fountains

Here is an example taken about two blocks south of the square:

OK, so you have time to spend 2 days in NYC and 3 days in FL. What about the rest of the east coast? Atlanta already got a "sneak peek" so maybe you could spend an hour or so each in SC, NC, VA, MD, DC, PA, and NJ.

It looks like I'm out of luck living a stone's throw from the Great Muddy.

At least I don't have to feel worse because there's an event in my old stomping grounds. Sorry, Mike.

Yea. I feel the same way. What is even more fustrating, I lived in Nor Cal for a short time and would still be there if my now ex wife had not wanted to move back to Texas. (Long story)

The Fry's electronics in Anaheim? Downtown Disney perhaps? Better yet, you could set up at the entrance to Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm and give everyone who shows up with a Pentax a free ticket!

Whatever you do, can you make one of the stops in north eastern Orange County? There isn't a store within 30 miles of my home that stocks Pentax, which is surprising considering the population density around here.

Portland, Oregon -

Well, weather.com's long range forecast (as unreliable as that is...) is calling for rain on the 12th and 13th.

What about under the Morrison Bridge on the East Waterfront near OMSI... that way we've got the weather situations covered whether rain or shine. Pioneer Square would be good too, but if the weather is bad, we'd have to hang out under the Max overhangs which aren't too big.

From the other thread:

Portland
August 12, 2009
11:30-1pm
Hilton Portland & Executive Tower
921 SW Sixth Avenue
Portland, OR 97204

Pretty short time frame, but at least it is during the lunch hour.

Ooof, I'll try making the Orlando date, despite the fact that it's in the middle of the tourist warzone. Why does everyone always think having conventions and meetups in the Disney area is a good idea? Locals avoid that area at all cost
