Tom-

I guess I was about 8-10 feet from the fence. I just waited as the Corsair taxied along the line and clicked when the pilot's head appeared behind the spectators' heads in front of me. The closer it got, the higher (apparently) it became.

I knew you were a good guy. I was active duty Navy 1964-1968, and reserves for the next 2 years. Plus, I worked for the Navy (Naval Audit Service) from February 1989 till I retired from the government in May 2006.

July, 1977-January, 1998 for me. Roughly 15 of those years were in direct/indirect (like Navy Hospitals on Marine bases) support of and service to the Marines. Yep, I was a corpsman. Did a little over 18 months on a tin can that could pack nuke missiles (different world!).

Looked at my images again today but at work (larger, better monitor). I have a couple more keepers than first thought. This weekend, I'll tweak some then put several on Pbase and here.

Glad everyone enjoyed themselves. Sorry about the difficulty contacting me. I think the next time we may need to rely upon TEXTing rather than voice. It was just so loud (wind, PA system and jets) that I guess I couldn't hear the phone ringing (note to self... put it on vibrate next time).

So , anyway, here is the one shot I've played with... it's pretty soft, but it still feels good...

F22 on a high speed pass...

OK, let's see if I can remember how to post a pic.

DA 40mm

DA 40mm

Tamron 28-75mm

Tamron 70-300mm

DA 18-55mm II

Hmmm....some of them really look a little dark. First time I have ever shot at an air show, and the sun was pretty bright. All were taken with a K20D (mostly in AV), and they are jpg's straight out of the camera. I shot raw+, so I guess I have a bit of pp to do. Mike kindly let me shoot with his Tamron 28-75mm for a while and I really like the way it handled.

The sun was freaking brutal! I assume you had a CP thing going (good thing) and that may have contributed to the darkness. Those last two look pretty promising, though.

EDIT: Here's a crop of that dangling troops shot--which I had already cropped. This is down to 3MP of the original 14.5. It may have been a bit too short but the DA 55-300mm is pretty impressive in good light.
