Yesterday marked another gathering of the San Francisco Bay Area Pentax enthusiasts, this time at the scenic Pt. Reyes National Seashore in Marin county.
I was delighted to attend my first ever photo group outing, and was in good company with the likes of Gary (Damn Brit) and Gus (igilligan). Unfortunately, our local guide, Tim (Blackcloudbrew), hurt his back and couldn't come, but we drank a pint or two in his honor. On that note, we began the journey where I understand all BAMU events traditionally start... at the pub. Yes, 3 plates of delicious fish 'n chips and 6 pints o' beer in Fairfax, CA and then we set off into the great unknown, through 20 miles of winding switchbacks over Mt. Tamalpais.
As we entered the National Seashore area, we immediately spotted a herd of Tule Elk which crossed directly in front of us. I was in awe of this occurence and completely forgot we were on a photography mission; thus, by the time i opened my bag and selected a lens and some fiddly attachments, I pretty much missed the shot. Hopefully Gary or Gus will post their awesome elk shots in here.
We took a short hike down a trail leading to McClure's beach and roamed around until after sunset. This is a gorgeous beach with some red cliffs and black rock formations. The weather was very cooperative and not very windy at all.
I tried my hand at some slow shutter seascapes using my M50/1.7 cranked down to f/22 and got 2 sec exposures of the crashing waves. I am very pleased with how these came out.
Gary and Gus, be sure to post some pics here, gents. Gus, howza bout just one last post for old times' sake?
